How It Works

Understand what happens after you contact us, from your free consultation to developing a strategy and working toward resolution.

Four-Step IRS Resolution Process

Most people who call us have been carrying an IRS problem for months, sometimes years. They are not sure what the IRS can actually do, what their options are, or who to trust. So before anything else, we tell you exactly what happens next — and what it costs. Our process has four stages. You will know which one you are in at all times, and you will never have to chase us for an update.

  1. Free Consultation

A tax professional reviews your situation and explains your options. There is no cost and no obligation.

    • We listen to what happened — including the years you may not have filed. There is no judgment here; almost every case we take involves something the client was embarrassed about.
    • We identify which IRS programs you may realistically qualify for, and which you will not.
    • If we can help, we quote a flat fee upfront, before any work begins. If we cannot help, we tell you that too, and point you somewhere useful.

Typical duration: one phone call. Call 1-877-800-8180.

  2. Investigation

Once you engage us, we establish protection and find out exactly where you stand with the IRS.

    • We file Form 2848 (Power of Attorney) so the IRS communicates with us instead of you. For most clients this is the moment the phone calls and the anxiety stop.
    • We pull your complete IRS account transcripts — every assessment, penalty, payment and deadline on file. This is where we usually find errors, and where we identify how much time remains on the collection statute.
    • We build a full picture of your finances, because every IRS resolution program is decided on your ability to pay, not on how much you owe.
    • We review your case and present you with the realistic options, including what each one would cost you and how long it would take.

Typical duration: 2 to 4 weeks.

  3. Resolution

We bring you into compliance and negotiate the best outcome your circumstances support.

    • Any unfiled returns are prepared and filed. The IRS will not approve any resolution program while returns are outstanding, so this comes first.
    • We prepare and submit your resolution — an Offer in Compromise, an installment agreement, Currently Not Collectible status, penalty abatement, innocent spouse relief, or an appeal, depending on what your case supports.
    • We handle every call, form and deadline with the IRS, and we keep you updated as the case moves.
    • If the IRS pushes back, we respond. A rejected offer is not the end of the process — it is often the start of the appeal that gets it done.

Typical duration: 3 to 9 months, depending on the program and the IRS backlog.

  4. Resolution Achieved

Your case closes. You know what you owe, if anything, and you have a clear path forward.

    • You receive written confirmation of the resolution from the IRS.
    • We explain what you need to do to stay compliant, because the fastest way back into trouble is a missed estimated payment in the following year.
    • If an agreement needs monitoring — an installment agreement or a Currently Not Collectible determination the IRS may revisit — we tell you what to watch for.

Frequently Asked Questions

In urgent cases we can often act within 24 to 72 hours of being engaged, because filing the Power of Attorney and contacting the assigned IRS unit is the first thing we do. How fast the levy is actually released depends on your compliance status and the resolution we can put in its place. If the IRS is taking your wages right now, call 1-877-800-8180 and say so.
